What is Anger?
Our curriculum is based on the Anderson and Anderson model and is currently the only anger management program accepted by the California Superior Court in Los Angeles County for court mandated anger management referrals.
All sessions are private and one-to-one. Executive Coaching and Hi-Profile clients have the choice of facilitating the Anger Management Service's program in the privacy of their office. In some instances, phone sessions can be arranged.
Anger is a basic human emotion that everyone feels. It is important to recognize that anger is a secondary emotion, which means we feel something else first ... even if we don't notice it. For example, we might feel afraid, attacked, offended, disrespected, or forced. Next comes anger, which is used to express negative feelings and often to gain attention, control, and to influence others. Because anger is a "learned response," we have the ability to unlearn the negative reactions and "retrain" ourselves to respond in a more healthy manner.
Physical changes occur in the body when we are angry. Our blood pressure may rise, and muscles can become tense as adrenaline enters the bloodstream. If we were to take a video of anger in action, we would notice that breathing stops and starts in an unhealthy way and the body becomes rigid and stressed. Too much stress can make us susceptible to illness, an ineffective life, and in some cases, addiction to drugs, alcohol, and out of control eating behaviors.
