Reactions to anger are learned responses.....We are taught that it's o.k. to feel anxious or frustrated, or other emotions, but not to express anger. The resultant effect is that no one has taught us how to deal with these repressed feelings of anger.

Where do you place your anger?

Family background plays an important role in how we react in situtations that cause us to feel angry and upset; and yes, even hostile. Did your family throw things, withdraw behind closed doors or close themselves off by staring at the television or internet? Did someone in your family get physically ill often, as a result of not being able to express their feelings?

Research has shown that people who were raised in families that are chaotic, disruptive, volitile and not aware of "emotional intelligence", are people who are easily angered. To understand "emotional intelligence" one must first learn what is is that they are feeling and then be able to express it in an appropriate way.
